Our History

The Texarkana Regional Airport (TXK), nestled in the heart of the Texarkana metropolitan area, boasts a rich history dating back to its establishment in the early 20th century. Originally known as Texarkana Municipal Airport, the airport was born out of the region’s need for improved air transportation facilities. In 1930, the airport officially opened its doors to commercial air service, marking a significant milestone in the area’s transportation infrastructure.

Throughout its history, the Texarkana Regional Airport has played a crucial role in connecting the Texarkana community to the rest of the country and beyond. During World War II, the airport served as a training base for military pilots, contributing to the war effort and highlighting its importance. In the post-war era, the airport continued to evolve, welcoming commercial airlines and expanding its facilities to accommodate the growing demand for air travel.

In recent years, the Texarkana Regional Airport has undergone significant upgrades and modernizations to meet the needs of today’s travelers while preserving its rich heritage. With state-of-the-art facilities, convenient amenities, and a commitment to exceptional customer service, the airport continues to serve as a vital gateway to the Texarkana region, connecting passengers to destinations near and far. As the airport looks toward the future, it remains dedicated to upholding its legacy of excellence and innovation in aviation. That’s why airport leadership is excited to celebrate the launch of its new terminal, currently opening July 1, 2024. The facilities upgrade will help ensure that the Texarkana community remains connected to the world for generations to come.
